Here is our review of the Fuji Instax Mini 8 (including Minion special edition) made by Fujifilm.
How much of my precious savings should I put into this?: Don’t worry your savings are safe
The price of the Fuji Instax Mini 8 is pretty stable: it costs around 70-80 euro. The value for money you get is awesome! There are few essential modes that, on average, perform very well and it is among the cheapest instant cameras on the market. If you are really picky and you want a limited edition you should be ready to pay something more (like around 120-140 euro), but still you will not have to sacrifice your 5-stars hotel holidays.
Will I be able to cope with it?: Yes, yes, yes! You just have to follow the (red) light
This is the camera we recommend for children. So you HAVE to be able to cope with it. To obtain perfect shoots with the Fuji Instax Mini 8 you have to follow these steps: turn on the camera, watch the lens appearing while turning it on, wait few seconds for a red light to appear next to the lens, point the camera towards the subject (or object) you want to take a picture of, see where the red light is, turn the lens in order to match the dot on the lens with the light and that’s it! You can shoot! The red light is just a sensor for the outside light condition. There are 4 main modes: bright sun, partially cloudy, cloudy and deep dark.
This is the best suggestion you can get so don’t try to prove the light wrong, she is ALWAYS right!
The red light rule is easy but important! Don’t forget to check where it is or you will destroy some film like this one.
That’s it! Once you follow these simple steps you can take as many pictures you want!
There is a mysterious mode called “Hi-Key”. In an ideal world it should augment the contrast between the subject and the panorama putting the panorama a little less in focus. In reality this mode is still obscure for us. We will do more Polaresearch on it and keep you updated.
If you like selfies… good luck! There is no selfie mirror in this camera and you should try to triangulate very well your position and the orientation of the lens to be sure to actually be part of the picture. I mean it is not impossible, but definitely challenging! There are external selfie mirrors (rabbit-shaped) that you can integrate with this camera but is the selfie valued the effort?? Your decision..
Will I pick up many people with this?: Yes…especially underage XD
With his bright colors and “curvy” silhouette, the Fuji Instax Mini 8 is a magnet for everybody! But those who like it the most are for sure kids! You can even match the colors with your mood or with your dress code! This camera is easy to use which makes it suitable particularly for kids.
How many crazy things will I be able to do with it? It will become your travel companion
Bring it always with you and she will not disappoint you!
Probably the most creative feature of this camera (which doesn’t allow for double exposure or self-timer shoots) is the possibility to use it with all different type of Instax mini frames!

To sum up:
Recommended for photographers: young, super young, super mega young! Kids will love it and will probably learn how to use in shorter time than their parents; color-lovers, those who “Whatever it is, better to be colored…” don’t worry, with this camera you will have so many colors that you could even match it to your mood!; beginners, those that just started to take instant picture and cannot deal with 100 different modes.
Not recommended for photographers: with their head in the clouds, those that one out of two times will probably forget to look at the red light wasting, in this way, the films; experts of instant photography, those who like to play around with all possible mechanisms, this is not a manual camera and will not be fun for you!; selfie-lovers, this camera will be a little tricky for selfie…just go and buy a different one.
